Iñigo Anton makes history by winning 3 titles

The phenomenal, 14-year old champion racer Iñigo Anton achieved another milestone by winning three championships in 2018.

The young Anton, who is also an honor student in his hometown Baguio, successfully defended his National Slalom Front Wheel Drive Championship and bagged two new titles, namely the Autocross Novice Class Championship and the Petron-MP Turbo Rally of Champions’ (ROC) Future Champions. Iñigo also won all the eight races of the Autocross Novice class, which in itself is already an astounding feat.

“It was very hard for me to fight for so many championships this year,” remarked the humble Iñigo. “The racing disciplines were all different especially in the ROC, so I had to adjust to each race and often in the same weekend. But it’s my dream to race and I really had fun in all the races.”

Having the most number of races last year, Iñigo was lucky to have his father, Asian Gymkhana champion, Carlos, with him all the time. Carlos trained his son since Iñigo was able to sit on his lap while he’s driving a car.

“To see Iñigo turn out to be the racing champion that he is, I can’t believe the talent he has at such a young age,” added Carlos. “With seven national titles at age 14, Iñigo is just a dream come true. I guess he is really a phenom and I’m truly blessed to have a son like him.”

The father and son duo also won together in the four and 12-hour endurance races in the same team. They also dueled against each other in the same racecars in the ROC Championship organized by MP Turbo. Their battles against one another, upcoming champions and other legends in the sport showed the Antons are the real deal.

Even though most of their weekends were spent out of their home, they have not forgotten their priorities. “I think time management was the hardest because I had my school to attend to while I went racing almost every weekend,” said the teenager Anton. “I will always do my best in school and racing, which I really enjoy. It’s always fun to race with my dad in the endurance races and against him in the ROC. We really enjoyed this year and we expect to challenge each other again this year.”

The Anton family plans to compete this year in autocross, rally cross, endurance races, and the Rally of Champions.

Carlos is confident that his son will be able to face the challenge head on.

“I think humility is Iñigo’s greatest asset. He will develop his skills further this year and he will fully comprehend what he has done when he gets older. He is a true champion.”
